At the end of September, you will receive a sharing schedule for the month of October. On your child’s scheduled sharing day, he/she will be asked to stand in front of the class to orally share information and answer questions from the class. This experience will help develop oral language skills, build your child’s confidence when speaking in front of a group, and allow your child to share his/her interests with the class.
Since the goals of sharing time are for children to develop speaking skills and to share information that allows classmates to know them better, I ask that toys notbe brought in for sharing time. When toys are brought in, sharing time turns into “bring and brag,” and the focus shifts from the child to the toy.
Great sharing topics may include things like personal information (family, pets, relatives visiting), special events (a new baby, a lost tooth, going to a restaurant, zoo, movie, a vacation or day trip), a special interest, hobby, or talent (sports, dance, karate, art, music), or any interesting discovery or observation (such as finding a bird’s nest in your yard). It is not necessary for your child to bring in an actual object at all. However, photos, souvenirs, or drawings related to the sharing topic may be brought in if they will help your child speak in front of the class.
After each sharing day, I will communicate with you in writing about your child’s progress in this area. Each month I will send home a sharing schedule for the month. If you have any questions about sharing time, please feel free to contact me.Thank you in advance for supporting your child’s learning!
